A person goes to a website. It's the first time he has ever been there. He purchases a shirt. What made him purchase the shirt?

Take note, this is the first time he sees the shirt and the first time he ever visits the site.

Those kinds of things are usually impulse buys, whether it be because they liked the shirt, or they just had far too much money burning a hole in their pocket.

That depends on the preselling content, design, trust factor etc on that website!

we can not say only one component on a webpage influences sales...A sale happens only with the right mix of content, design and many other things....

Does the t-shirt have a specific design that may give some indication as to their state of mind? I.e. does it have a picture or design? Or, is it just a plain color t-shirt?

He has seen the shirt before and found ur prices sooo amazing he could not say not... and your site looked legit not like some random copy cat china store.

Any ways... you could speculate to the birds drop, why not just ask the person why he bought the dang shirt and in return he will get a 20% discount of his next purchase.

There isn't one cut and dry answer to the question. There are many possible reasons why he bought the shirt.

The site was number 1 in Google for the keywords the person used.

It was the only shirt he found in the size and color he was looking for.

He shopped around and that shirt was the cheapest in the style he wanted.

His brother linked him to the shirt and said that's what he wanted for his birthday.

He needed a shirt and had no patience to spend time looking around, so he bought the first shirt that looked halfway decent.

    The marketing was good.

He fell in love with the shirt and just had to have it.

He needed a green/blue/red/whatever color shirt for the annual "wear green to work" day, and since he hates department stores, he just found one online.

The list can go on and on. No one knows what the customer's motive is.

He must have liked the shirt and must also have more than enough money for it.

Well, If I was the one who bought the shirt, it would be because,

    1.The site looks trustworthy.
    2.The Shirt looks awesome.
    3.Prices are amazing.
    4.Paypal gateway.
    5.Fast shipping.

And I think thats all for now :D

Oh yeah.. I won this puzzled before:

Simple Answer and made me a winner at all :D

I would call it impulse buying combined with good online retail merchandising.
When I was in the retail business if we had good displays of products set up in
strategic locations in the store it would give people the impulse (propensity) to buy.

People would have no idea before they walked into the store that they
were going to buy those well displayed products, but the way they were
merchandised made them more appealing and drove them to buy.
This online shirt retailer you reference probably displayed the shirt in just
the right place on the website, it was probably just the right color or had
just the right design and the purchaser felt they had to have it.

Another similar concept is how retailers display what they call impulse items near the register.
People wait in line at the register, look at the displays and make impulse buying
decisions having no idea they were going to buy those items before they went into the store.

    Oh yeah.. Got it again!
