hey guys im new to this whole scene, ive been reading a LOT of the threads in here and they all seem like great ideas but i just dont know where to start or how to start if someone is willing to help me out ill be sure to bring in some input as learn the game a bit. Im not looking to become a millionaire off of all this but im just looking for some extra income that will continue to build up. I liked the idea of building websites for local businesses through templates and the idea of advertising for local business such as DentistsinLeyton. I havent quite understood all the terms and such yet but i now understand a little about linkwheeling and backlinking. If anyone is able to get me started it is much appreciated and i will pay for the help after i get a nice steady income if thats acceptable. Thanks ahead of time and i apologize if i broke any rules by asking for help i just honestly have no idea where to start with all of this.

First you have to decide how you want to make money via IM. There are a zillion different ways to make an outstanding living on the internet.

Once you decide what you want to do, then you need to take the time to learn as many of the nuances of that method/process and just work at it.

If you want to target local businesses, go online to the local chamber of commerce site and start calling the businesses and pitch your services. Offer a free consultation to see if they are properly utilizing the web for new and existing business.

Make a mock site of a company and bring it to them on your laptop and show them what you can do.

In all, if you want to make a living in IM, you just have to start working at it.

A cpa is a Cost per action. Typically someone would enter their email address or zip code into an offer and the person that drove them to that submit link would get paid somewhere between 1.00 and 2.00. You have probably seen banners that say, enter your email address to win a 500.00 walmart card. Others (loans, insurance, etc) are a bit more involved and pay much more.

An affiliate is the guy that sends the person to the banner. To become an affiliate, one would sign up with an affiliate network (there are a million of them) and be able to present the offers that the network has to the general public.

There are also affiliates of tangible items such as sporting goods, tickets, etc.... again almost anything you could think of... the most popular company to sign up with for that kind of thing is commission junction (cj.com).

To offer either one of those you would build a website, fill it with unique decent content and apply to the networks to become an affiliate (salesperson) with them. Once approved, you would put banners and links on your site and then begin driving traffic to the site with the hopes that you monetized it properly to generate revenue for you.

    Its best to pick just one method to begin with and just go for it;

Give yourself a time-scale; say for the next 90 days you will try this method and really try your hardest to make it work; just keep constantly reviewing what you are doing and change things around and monitor the effects to your money making.

The main trouble for newbies is they will try a method for 3 days not see a penny then move to the next method, this is the wrong attitude, sometimes it can take 2 or 3 months of constant work to even see one penny in earnings.

Once you find a gold vein of income; duplicate this exact method with another niche and so on till you got 100's of methods bringing in money.

ok so basically for affiliates, for example lets say golf equipment

i make a website thats main focus is a certain crowd of golf, i find a few golf forums scrape the emails and send them to my site or a backlink that would lead to my site which would have the affiliates on it? with affiliates do u get paid for them simply clicking the ad?

i actually have seen cpa offers thanks for the example.

I personally do not scrape emails... I use article promotion generally to get action for my sites but you have the idea about creating a site about golf (tough niche by the way) and getting visitors to that site. You could use a signature for one way, write articles and have your link in the resource box, set up a facebook page and get likes and use those that are golfers that like your page... millions of different ways to drive traffic.

The only company that I would use that pays you just for someone clicking on your ad would be adsense.

And to answer your hosting ?, hostgator is pretty popular in these parts.

I'm not a hostgator guy so I can't answer that question but I know it is wildly popular with a lot of folks here.

You would drive traffic to your articles with other articles of course... sounds silly but it works like a charm. I have a bunch of different accounts at ezinearticles.com and over 4,000 articles there and promote them with other articles ont he Web 2.0 sites that are available.

You would have links in your resource box on ezine but on most web 2.0 properties, you can have links in the body of the article... your best bet to promote them would be to use anchor text in the body of the article.

Anchor text - Keyword you want to rank for

You'll never hear me complain about it... I generate over 7,000 monthly on a regular basis from it. People complain because they get tossed by adsense for not following the rules.

Follow their rules and make easy money from adsense.
