Help me do SEO on a tight budget

As a broke student trying to learn SEO, what are the most effective off-page SEO strategies I can use to increase rankings with a budget of $100?

Don't focus on bulk backlinks. Instead, do a few high-authority guest posts for backlinks, and it will work well in 2025.

If I'm into SEO, with just $100,
I would only consider parasites & low-medium difficulty keywords,
That's the easiest path to rank rapidly, easily, without too much investment,
You can drive the traffic directly to your website(s), aff links, or whatever is the way to monetize it,

Basically, you can't really do the bare minimum for link-building with $100,
Probably would work if you get a clean niche-relevant domain with a dozen decent links & redirect it to some parasite page,
Better keep it for hosting, domain(s), niche/kws research tools (go for group buys), etc...

Are you suggesting buying an aged domain and redirecting it to a parasite page? Wouldn’t that be a waste of the domain?

Also, do you have any tool recommendations for beginners who are just getting started? I keep seeing GSA SER mentioned everywhere, but I’m not sure if it’s a good idea to use it for my main money site since I only have one domain. What do you think?

Not really, if you are promoting some good keyword, that could make a good ROI, it's surely worth it,
You can use the same parasite page to pass link juice to other pages as well, basically a kind of micro niche all using the same parasite website,
Take medium for example, find a relatively easy niche/keywords, drive links to the main keyword/page, and pass more juice to others,

The thing is, for such a price, you can't rely on a domain to actually rank & bank,
At least, while using parasites, you'll be taking advantage of the main domain authority, and investing in some additional links to make it work better,

Nope, not worth, not something to rely on, you'll be losing your money for that,
Go for Semrush group buy, use your time finding some good niche/keyword, analyzing the competition, etc...

The best way to boost your website’s ranking is through free or low-cost methods that actually work. Here’s a simple breakdown:

For Free;

1. Get Backlinks (Other Sites Linking to You)​

2. Be Active on Social Media & Forums​

3. List Your Site in Free Directories​

For Low-Cost Methods;

1. Use Cheap PR & Outreach
2. Buy an Expired Domain

These methods are budget-friendly and will help your website rank higher on Google over time.

For free/cheap, fast and effective SEO, you almost have to use parasites, and at least take the time to write decent content for the core keywords of your niche. Take one week to select your site niche, at least 7-8 well-selected keywords to rank, and write the corresponding 7-8 articles for them. I'd spend $50 of the $100 in the OP's budget to buy a cheap expired domain with a great backlink, to register that site name and get a super cheap host for it (see some suggestions from putting "cheap hosting" in the BHW search bar).

Use the other $50 to buy a bunch of gigs (I use $1-$5 ones in SEOClerks) offering to write and post niche articles on good to high authority "safe" subpages or parasite pages that link to your corresponding 7-8 website articles. The best on the no-follow/parasite side are properties like Medium and Quora, et al. Measured by Authority Score (SEMRush), the following are free and d0-follow (d-) and should work:

There are a lot more available properties like this, but pointing 3 of these at each main article on your site will serve to provide the initial authority juice to move the needle. If your keywords are good and your content is likewise, you will have an excellent foundation for ranking.

You can set up free blogs and profiles on different sites, post helpful content, and drop a natural link to your site. It’s a simple way to get backlinks and improve your SEO.

If you're broke then focus on free and cheap SEO moves:

1. HARO – free backlinks from authority sites.
2. Guest posts – pitch blogs for free or cheap backlinks.
3. Web 2.0s – create mini-sites on Medium, WP, etc.
4. Citations – build profiles on Crunchbase, About.me, etc.
5. Reddit & Quora – drop links subtly for traffic & SEO.
6. Social signals – share content on Twitter, Pinterest, FB.
7. Expired domains – grab cheap aged domains for backlinks.

Stick to quality over quantity and reinvest profits later.
