I want to have dozens of browser sessions open, documents open, excel files open, ftp, keyword research tools, adword editor, youtube video page on pause, pandora page on pause, xmsatellite radio page on pause, up to hundred of open notebook files, all that and i can still scroll Amazon book listing and watch movie on Hulu without noticing any lag, speed problem or system slowdown. What kind of spec should I look for in a laptop? I don't really know what to look for. Cache? RAM? Processor type / speed?

Alienware

LOL joke....

Just pick some 2010 model and you are OK(not a netbook though).

I know you said "not a netbook though"

2ghz dual core cpu

4gb ram

also a fast internet connection

and you should be all set

It's more of a OS thing I reckon.

Mac would much better suit you. And if you need to run a PC app, you just run it in a VM.

A basic 15" Macbook Pro would do you nicely :)

I would recommend a Laptop from Toshiba Qosmio Series.

Very fast with lots of storage and high RAM.

Here's review and price comparison.

i just got an acer aspire 5942g, it'll easily handle the above

if youv got the budget get a laptop with an i7 and a radeon 5000 series gpu in it and youll be set

I just bought the HP HDX16 Premium. Dual core 2.4ghz, 4gb ram, 1gb dedicated graphics memory. It's a beast - nothing slows it down.

To give an example, it alt-tabs between top-end graphics games (e.g. crysis) and firefox with 20 tabs open and there's no delay.

and you should remember some thing else too that the more your cpu and other part of your computer is powerful the sooner your battery will discharge.

what i'm trying to get has 6gb ram, 1gb dedicated graphics memory, i7,

so that should do it?

if you can find a laptop with a radeon 5000 series gpu in it youll end up with something faster in general but it all depends what you find with it if you really want 17" with it

good luck with a 17" i7 laptop, your gonna need it, dont sit it on ur lap and try not to move it or youll throw your back out LOL
