This will get you through in a matter of minutes. Download the app 'Numflix' or 'Instanumber' onto your iPhone (I don't know if they are available on Android but i imagine they would be) and set it up. You will have a new number within a matter of seconds. Fire up your PC. Next, If you are in a country other than the US, then make sure you have a VPN running on your system and that it is using a US server and go to the required verification page. Then simply confirm your country as the US and then insert your new number that 'Numflix' / 'Instanumber' has assigned to you and your done. Simples!!

use the service called maskme or blur as it's called now. It will give a phone number to use.

I'm searching for a free way to verify fb and i'm going to try all suggestions here. Thanks for sharing.

Open google account then went to google/voice and entered the textnow number to get a call to verify my number. They called me and I verified the number was mine. Got a new Google voice number and I then could authenticate with facebook using the Google voice number. Anyways after that it was verified but now they want a picture ID. Oh well. Big Facebook now wants to be Big Brother.

Just tried this method and tried using a Sonetel number. Neither worked for me, really sucks
 
I just used a Google Voice number to verify facebook. Doesn't accept it at first if Facebook is asking you to verify.. but if you go into settings and choose to add a mobile number, it will give you the option to select your carrier (in this case Google Voice) and you can then use it to verify.

I find it interesting too. Wow, this thread made me rethink my facebook strategy. I'm a little afraid of this now.
