HELP!! Experts please help me evaluate these 2 SEO optimization solutions

On websites there are often many pages in pagination form, like
- domain.xx/author/page-2
- domain.xx/author/page-3....
or
- domain.xx/article/comment-page-2/
- domain.xx/article/comment-page-3/...

There are some opinions that:
1/ You should nofollow pagination pages, only ******** the original page, to minimize the number of redundant indexes.

2/ all of these pages need to be ********. Supporters of this view say:
With Google's update, link juice will not be transferred to no_follow links, but that does not mean that do_follow links will receive more link juice, in fact it will be the same as if we left the link as do_follow. .

So if page_2 is indexed, those page_2 will still transmit link_juice back to page_1 and other urls => better for the whole site.

In case you want to reduce the index of pagination pages, you can apply a number of ways such as:
- Increase the number of posts per page (for example, an article category previously had 8 posts but can now increase to 15 posts)
- Added internal link to page_1.

So, which view do you support and why? Or do you have a better optimization for the above case?

I tend to noindex paginated pages from page 2 onwards, but I also increase the number of posts/articles/products displayed per page to say 20-30. Also, never rely on pagination for indexing purposes or 'juice distribution' purposes. Use other forms of internal links for that - contextual links in articles, related product links etc

Could you please explain your point further why "never rely on pagination for indexing purposes or 'juice distribution' purposes".

Because those pages will be extremely weak, and from a UX position navigating to anything that is buried deep in pagination will be horrible.
