    Hi,

I have an old website, its all HTML, and I am looking to transfer it to be a Wordpress site (for ease of updating, better functionality, etc...)

What is the best way to do the switch over? Just copying and pasting everything or...?

I don't want to lose visitors for things I already rank for, so should I make the permalinks all .html at the end of them, to mimic the original pages?

    Thanks for all your help!

Are you looking to copy the theme too, or just content? Send me a PM so I can help you out.

    - Install a development copy on your server.
    - Copy/paste, posts + pages.
    - Configure Permalinks to not lose your visitors, or use .htaccess for that.

    Launch your Blog :)

It's manually intensive and there's no easy way to convert automatically.

If you have the time - learn how to do it
Search on google for the following: lynda wordpress creating and editing custom themes
Either buy it, or find links for it ;)

I've also seen fiverr deals on html to wordpress converison (one page for 5 bucks - but your entire design may consist of more than one type of page)

I would use 301 redirects. There is a good WP plugin called Redirection which works well or you can just add add the 301 redirects to your htaccess file, one redirect per line.

Hey, thanks for everyones responses!!! Much appreciated. I will start working on it this weekend. I will probably end up doing a new theme so maybe I'll just copy and paste everything and re-do the permalinks.

It shouldn't be too bad, its only 5-6 pages.

    Thanks again!
