First of all, hello everybody this is my first post here. I've been lurking around but recently decided to join and become an active contributor to the forum.

Anyways, I've got this option to buy a good expired domain with lots of diversified backlinks and it a pretty good domain name as well. My only concern about this is that I want to build an

authority site on an unrelated niche with the previous one. So I was wondering what kind of effect would this produce on the longterm? I plan to monetize the website with Google Adsense, so

anyone who has got a certain experience with this one is welcomed to offer me his opinion.

    Thanks in advance.

Hello bud, I hope you will have a nice time here. I'm not an old member, but I can already sense the potential this forum offers. Anyway back to your topic.

I don't think Google will ban you if you go slow on the links, but anyway it won't be a good idea to build on an unrelated niche. Maybe you could use this site as a tier-1 and not your money site? Either way I suggest you go slow and test the waters.

Google won't penalize you unless you do something stupid to it. There's nothing wrong with building a site on an aged/expired domain, but def not the best route unless it's related to your market.

Thanks a lot, I like it already. Well this falls on the low xxx range, so I would not invest in such a domain for my tier 1. The main reason I want to buy it is because I think the content I will post will start ranking higher and it will be easier for me to rank the site. What do you think? Will the new site carry the backlink profile?

I would not take the risk. These days there is chatter that google updates are focusing more on relevancy of the back links. I don?t know how true that is but it does not seem worth taking the risk. Better to start with an expired domain that has lower metrics but more relevant back links.
