Help! Been backlink spammed!

One of my websites has suddenly dropped from number 1-5 on Google for dozens of keywords to absolutely nowhere. Thought this may just be a dance or something as I have been adding new links but just checked on webmaster tools and see 2000 new backlinks from some website called busythumbs.

I didn't build these links and I can't get onto the website (just goes blank) but it seems as if it has harmed my site. Is there anyway I can rectify this or tell Google that I do not want these links associated with my site?

Can't get to the site either, someone probably spammed your link to their forum.

Yes, it seems quite obvious to me that one of my competition has spammed my site although I never really thought it would have such a big impact on my site.

Is there any way of somehow disassociating myself with these links or letting Google know this wasn't me. In other words, is there some way out of this mess? I have vanished off search engines overnight and lost all my traffic!

No there is no way to do anything about it.. just give it a few months and ull be fine.

That means I've lost a couple of months of revenue and traffic! Is there a way to maybe power out of it - e.g. if I now build thousands of backlinks on a regular basis so it looks more normal?

I've got a good idea of who has done this to me, wondering if I should return the favour or if that would just help them get stronger!

You don't want to give anyone else links - ever.

Just keep building your own, high quality links at the pace in which you've previously built them. The search engines aren't stupid - it's not 1997. If it was that easy to spam your competition off the map courtesy of 2000 backlinks then Fiverr, Facebook, Google and Youtube would be sandboxed 400k times by now.

Just keep building at your natural pace and all will be fine.

This sucks - I would report this to Google, there is no way you should have to be out of action for a month.

Yeah, not happy at all. It seems no coincidence that this has happened as a site that seems to be EXTREMELY similar to mine has replaced me on the rankings.

It is always very sad to me to see threads like this.

Why do people have to harm other people sites? Why can't they just work on their own sites to beat them?

It's a dog eat dog world out there, so you have to stay strong and keep pushing in times like this. Nothing will be a bigger Middle Finger for this guy than to see you back on Number 1 again, so keep pushing through, man!
