I'm a newbie to SEO and websites. I just got a new micro niche site and now I'm looking to do the off page SEO myself. Is it a wise idea for a newbie to do the SEO on his own?

After Penguin and Panda, what is the most important thing that helps in the SEO? Linkbuilding, social bookmarking etc. PLEASE list all of these in order of most important to least important. Also, it would be really helpful if you could give some tips on each of them.

Thanks!

Anyone can do SEO, the only thing that matters is the experience. Without any concrete skills it will be difficult to achieve any significant ranking, that is where hiring and outsourcing becomes a second choice.

From my experience as well as recent investigation into Google Penguin, here is what i have learnt and what matters when it comes to SEO.

>100% Quality Content Not those Scraped crap content
>Quality links (High Pr non spammy)
>Keyword Diversification and also avoid over optimization

If you can achieve this you will RULE in Ranking.

I currently offer SEO services in another forum and planning of bombarding here soon with my offers.

you can do seo yourself.i used ibusinesspromoter first when i entered to im.according to the report i optimized my website myslef and achieved 1st page in google for a keyword.

i was a beginner to seo few months ago. read some online articles and downloaded a video pack on torrents called "SEO academy" or some thing. used some free online backlink creation methods and managed to get page rank 3 to facebookchatcodes.com blog in one month and few days.

i did nothing special. got some likes to facebook fan page. submitted site maps to google and configured google analytics and created some backlinks manually and using other free tools.

i think im still a newbee. have to learn lots of stuff. try things on your own so you can be a great search engine optimizer :D

The first thing you NEED to make sure of is to NOT overoptimize.

Keyword diversity. Tonnes of unique content NOT focused on 1 keyword. The same goes with linkbuilding campaigns. Don't make them target a single keyword, but a variety. Make it as natural as possible.

Thank you! Please give me an example of a high quality link and a spammy link. And also give me your definition of over optimization.

the main thing that was mentioned in the penguin update was not to over optimize the sites and diversification of keywords.
Don't use too much anchor text with same keywords targeting to your main site directly. always write quality content and update the site regularly. that's enough.

High quality links are links from high pr sites which include privately owned networks, guest blogging, manual blog commenting, press release, web 2.0 e.t.c.

Here are spammy links to stay away from

Cleansing Domains
Avoid Private Blog Networks that have a name.
Article Marketing Spam
Single-Post Blogs
(Paid) Site-Wide Links
Paid Links in Content
Link Exchanges, Wheels, etc
Low-Quality Press Release Syndication
Linkbait and Switch
Directories
Link Farms and Networks
Social Bookmarking & Sharing Sites
Forum Spam
Profile Spam
Comment Spam
Domain Purchase and Redirect/Canonical

Stop working using bot and start working manually building links and focus on being natural .You get good results and also your rankings back if you got hit by penguin update.

There's a good thread here you might want to take a look at

As far as im aware you cant fix the penguin with more backlinks. What you need to do is remove the bad backlinks.

I do agree however on natural linkbuilding, without the bots.

That seomoz video about over-optimization has some pretty good info.
