I'm from Alaska, you don't even need a permit/class or anything to carry concealed and even felons get to have guns after 5 years. Its a way of life (bear protection everywhere + subsistence lifestyle in villages). And somehow people manage not to shoot each other over dumb shit all the time, maybe because they know the other guy has a gun too? Or maybe because you idiots from the city feel extra tough when you're carrying so you put yourself in bad situations? Either way I'm better than you if you can't tell, because I'm from Alaska.

Your homicide rate is still 4.4 times higher than the UK, but you do appear to be one of the safer US states.
I'm totally pro gun, but I think the UK's strict approach to firearms is pretty fucking good to be fair, which leaves other UK shooters who think we should be like america pissed off at me... The only change I would make is allowing .22 pistols for target purposes.
No one in a civilised country needs an assault weapon for home protection. No one needs full auto AK's or large calibre pistols (they are too easy to use for idiots) and while I feel bad I can't get semi auto in anything bigger than .22lr I'm not missing out on much... I shoot steel and paper, .22 is enough.
But if you want a .50 cal Barrett, yeah no problem. As long as you have somewhere to shoot it and a purpose (such as competition shooting) the police are pretty good with it and it's very rare to have a problem.
And our gun crime statistics are some of the lowest in the world. It's hard to argue really.

I agree that was sort of my point, you don't want to fishing in a creek or walking through thick brush and startle a bear and NOT have a gun, I knew 2 people (well I KNEW one of them I knew of the other but he was local as well) growing up that were mauled by bears and one of them is horribly disfigured (it was crunching on his skull and face while he played dead, only reason it left without killing him) and permanently disabled - and they're lucky to be alive.
edit: here's the story about one of their maulings. He even had a rifle but startled the bear and was too close to get a shot off (even then grizzlies are big, usually you need distance and you try to shoot the front shoulder to topple them to stop the charge before worrying about a kill shot):

People who live in a city and carry them for 'protection' are the ones that are the problem and we could do without all the guns in the lower 48. Sorry but none of you need to hunt to eat or need it for bear protection and the government isn't going to come and put you all in an internment camp if you're crazy uncle no longer has 27 AR-15s. I've lived for the last 10 years between Oregon, California and mostly Florida and I've lived in some bad neighborhoods (like only white boy and 5 guys in front of my door slinging rocks everyday) and I've been robbed and never in any of these situations would it have ended better if I had a gun (one of us would be shot and the other's life would be severely disturbed through the legal process). You see these people and they feel tough because they have a gun and then they put themselves in situations they would avoid if they were unarmed and then since they're scared and in a bad spot the gun comes out.
That being said I heard you have a lot of knife crime, I'd much rather be shot than stabbed (I got stabbed - literally - in my back (lower) and that's painful plus the fear of being right up with someone and having to struggle with them is really fucking scary).

At the time I was very much against the whole banning of hand guns but I was under the impression that things had lightened up more recently. Before the ban I was a member of the local gun club and would go every week, pistols were my preferred gun.
Now I am a bit older and have a family I am not sure how I would feel about anyone having handguns but ultimately it is a lot easier to get a hold of a shotgun and saw the end off it anyway.
How the fuck did you get a hold of the HK416? I would absolutely love a go on a machine like that. When I was in Vegas we went to a gun range and I had a go on a bunch of different guns and it was amazing.

It's just a .22 semi auto, perfectly legal. It's the same as a ruger 10/22 in the eyes of the law... Just looks mean.
I'm not aware of any law changes reguarding pistols. I know for the 2012 Olympics a temporary pass was brought in for competitors (as the sport would have been illegal with the current laws) but I imagine this has since expired. Retarded really as our Olympians cannot practice in their own fucking country, this is why I think .22 pistols should be legal.
You can get pistols, but you need a very special circumstance such as you are a wild animal vet who uses them for humane dispatch in the field. I'm also aware of a professional deer hunter who also has one for similar reasons.
They are limited to holding 2 bullets only, and they are very restricted in the amount of ammo they can have for that gun (I think it might be as low as 10 rounds).

Well that's fucking stupid. I was under the impression they were legal providing they were kept at a gun range and not at private residences, I guess not.
I miss playing around with pistols, I have a couple of air pistols but they are not the same.
