Hi there,
I have been spending quite a few hours reading through the forum over the past week. Am really impressed by some of the good advice on here. Also am learning a lot from reading and getting ideas for angles that I haven't tried.
I have been interested in the internet since about 2000 and bought first site in 2006 might have been 2005, time flies.
Not really engaged in seo at any length yet, believe it or not.
Been busy with work and other stuff in life. But a couple of years ago, my mum was in hospital for about 6 months and I bought some of the better known books on seo and started doing backlink analysis on sites and looking at their content and reading. Over those 6 months I really learnt a lot about SEO from pulling sites apart and seeing what their strategies were.
Then my mum got better and I went back to work and again didn't do anything.
I have been to some free seo events and found them fascinating, I find the internet as a whole fascinating.
I feel a bit indifferent to google as it likes to implement various 'upgrades' that result in people having to spend money on adwords to sustain their business. I don't buy into the do no evil bs they like to put out.
Last year my mum got ill again and I started a business, and you guessed it, I did no seo, no online promotion apart from building a website, that I did no promotion for online - duh. I had work plus looking after my mum, I was too tired etc to do much.
This year its all change I have been going to some seo events, talking to people, have built a new webite, have optimised it for certain terms. Have followed googles guidelines, done the speed tests etc and tweaked the site for it, got good scores.
Now I am ready to start creating links, writing articles and looking at other ways to rank.
I still look after my mum, so I want 3 days work a week, then rest of time, I finally want to put the knowledge I have combined with proven new techniques to become financially liquid enough that if I need to look after my mum continually for a period of time that I have enough money coming in that I am not worried.
I am looking at adsense, selling some downloadable products and potentially some other stuff.
While I am looking to do SEO I want to take a steady approach, I want to avoid getting banned or sent to page 45 etc
