Hi guys,

I've been lurking in the shadows for just over a week now. Seen a lot of interesting content and community seems great so I decided to take the plunge (or rather stop being lazy) and actually register an account!

So yeah, hello!

I guess an introduction should contain a bit about myself so... I'm a full-time web developer with over 10 years of development experience. I consider myself as an above average developer, but far from being amazing (there's always more to learn).

I've created quite a few sites on the side as my own personal projects in an attempt to make a side income. Most of the time these fall flat on their face, largely due to the failure to promote/drive traffic after creation. I'm hoping that joining this forum will motivate me, as well as learn new & interesting stuff.

Anyway nice to meet you guys! :)

Hodge

Hi Hodge. Welcome to BHW. There's a ton to learn here on the forum. Do you work for yourself or a firm?

Thanks for the warm welcome guys! :D

Do you work for yourself or a firm?

I started off by freelancing, which then lead to setting up my own web design agencies. The didn't really work out so I now work for a small web design agency. Love it here though as the team is very friendly and passionate!

Welcome to BHW.
You are lucky that Ungagged will be in your country,so be prepare for that. :)

Hello fellow uk web developer! What stack do you normally develop on?

Thanks guys!

That's the first I heard about Ungagged. :p I had a look at their website and it definitely looks interesting though!

Hello! All sorts of stuff really, from WordPress-based sites for SMEs with custom theme/post types to complete custom solutions using the Laravel framwork. Oh, and a lot of HTML emails, which is... a bore to say the least! :)

What about you?

Thanks guys!

Lamp stack with flat code or laravel. Bit of c# too :-) big fan of laravel. What sort of methods do you have your eye on at the moment then?

Always nice to see fellow UK citizens signing up. Welcome to BHW buddy

Thanks guys. Quite a lot from the UK then, although I guess that's to be expected given the size of the forum! How are you guys liking the weather? lol

Yeah gotta love Laravel! I might be being dumb here but what do you mean by what methods I have my eye on?

I mean like seo+Amazon or YouTube+PPD etc etc. I thought it was funny what you said about making sites and then failing due to promotion because I did exactly the same thing. I made some awesome stuff but just didn't know how to get people on them. I've made fashion social networks, bit coin market alert systems, seo website analysis systems and tons more. I'm now focusing on how to generate traffic through social media and selling other people's products and having much more success! :-)

Welcome to BHW mate and good luck with your projects. It's always good to see more developers coming in.

Thank you, will do!

Ahh that's what you meant! Wow, those sites sounds pretty cool. And yeah, promotion has always been a major hurdle for me! It's nice to hear you're having success now anyhow!

I don't have any plans as such. I am thinking it'd be nice to come up with a site with a subscription fee (as well as free option with limited functionality), but that's pretty much as far as I've got. I'm slowly browsing my way around BHW to get ideas and inspiration.

My sites do make a (very) small side income as it is. I have a site for example in the guitar niche, which is currently my main site and has roughly around 4,000 visits a day (both referral + organic traffic). It's a pretty old site - I probably created it in 2006. It's related to tabs so I don't think the quality of traffic is great in terms of making money, but I have been thinking about getting content writers and expanding on that site. I've personally lost interest in guitar, so I definitely need to hire someone. I guess that's the site that most people will tell me to focus my attention on!

Welcome to BHW mate and good luck with your projects. It's always good to see more developers coming in.

Thanks, glad to be here!

Welcome Hodge..........
