Hey folks, my name is Charlie and I'm from Canada.

I am exploring search engine Marketing for a number of reasons, but at the end of the day, I would like to be able to freelance as an SEO marketer.

Although I've taken an introductory online course to Internet Marketing and I'm currently learning and improving my knowledge of html5 and css3, I'm still a bit at loss as to how I should go about this process, which is why I figured it best to join and learn from a community of people involved with internet marketing. I realise I have a lot to learn naturally but it seems like this might be the right place to be in order to develop the right skills to work in this fascinating industry, if you will. Anyway, that's about it in a nutshell! I look forward to discussing (and learning) from you all! :)

(ps I didn't realise how stringent the posting guidelines were! I had to edit the wording of my intro a good dozen times before I was allowed to post it, lol!)

Hi,

Where do you start? If you're looking to expand your technical knowledge (not a bad idea), try codecademy or Udemy. There is a free Udemy section under downloads. Start yourself a wordpress website on a free platform, and start blogging. See how it works. Target some easy keywords of a hobby that's related to you. Try out some social media. Really hard to give advice when your post is pretty vague about what you're after, but if you've just taken an introductory course online, I would suggest getting your feet wet in a way that won't break the bank. That and read super long threads here on BHW. Most importantly, DON'T spend your money on any tools. It gets addictive.

Cheers

Hello XH,
Thank you for the reply! Yes, sorry my first post was a little vague, I had a longer post originally but the guideline rules wouldn't let me post it, so I kept cutting it down.
As for my current knowledge, I do have a rudimentary wordpress site/blog, and I also youtube and have an IG account - I am a little more 'savy' with those sites - my IG account has 3K followers (I only post my own pictures) and do NOT do the whole f4f stuff (follow maybe 200 other accounts, mostly my friends) and my YT account has 2.5k subs.
My social media/wordpress accounts/sites are mostly based around a 'fandom' to be specific, but I'd rather avoid giving more information than that for now. :-)

I hope this is enough info to give a rough idea as to where I am in terms of my 'technical knowledge'. I will certainly look at those sites you suggested (codecademy and udemy) - oh I have been following the Channel 9 sites 'HTML5 and CSS3 Fundamentals' video series. As it stands I am about halfway through the series.

Thanks again for your advice! :-)
