What skills would you like to develop?
I'm looking at using social media to promote awareness of social causes. I'm not talking manipulating elections, but stuff like helping with marketing and outreach for charity organizations. Since I'm a small-time programmer who's good at python, maybe I'll even get started with learning to apply these skills and sell my services as well; but that's still a long time off and I'm here to learn from the pros.

It's refreshing to hear a goal that doesn't involve $$$. It's not something I come across often here. Programming knowledge is going to go a long way on your journey. I think Python goes hand and hand with the activism side of things since the language is built for gathering and presenting data and statistics so well.
