I'm not an SEO guy at all, just a store owner who needed to sell more online - you know the virus thingy 
when you're successful selling offline why should you spend time and energy selling online... life sometimes teaches us lessons.
I joined about a year ago to see what the heck was that Black Hat SEO thing, I remember someone telling me that Black Hat SEO was dangerously BAD... lol
I tried and still trying to do our own SEO - In late January, I subscribed to a $19.99 monthly SEO "agency" - dropped it some weeks later as it smelled fishy, looked at other agencies and the cost scared to hell out of me - today I feel it's justified.
I also signed up for SEO tools and wasn't impressed, won't give the names though reading posts on BHW, I found out that many love AHREFS, and like SEMRush - I signed early March with the later as they gave me a nice discount for the Guru plan.
Nevertheless, the information I find on BHW and a few backlink services I purchased make a huge difference - some of my keywords are on the first page of SERP - it takes time and patience but it works.
