Hello everyone,

I am scientist who started doing SEO in order to earn some extra cash. I started to learn about SEO 10 months ago, and I found a lot of useful stuff on this forum so I finally decided to join. I hope I can learn even more here :)

I do SEO for my friends website. That's actually how I ended up doing SEO. He couldn't find someone he can trust and offered me to learn SEO and start doing SEO for his website. It's a website of his company. In these 10 months that I have been learning SEO I managed to have mean ranking position 6.7 for 42 keywords he wanted to rank for, and when I started the mean position was 28. So he is very pleased. But I guess those are medium-competition keywords. So now I want to learn more, to get even higher and to learn how to do SEO for completely new website, because this one had already built backlinks and had someone doing SEO before me.

Well first I started with some free online courses. Read a lot of articles about how people do it, and read a lot of people's experiences with it. So I made a list of all things people say you should do (which I thought made sense) and tried to test it to see if it works. Some of them worked and some of them didn't, but it was a good way to see what really works in practice for my website. The biggest challenge for me is that the website for which I do SEO is not in English, and after testing a lot of strategies (which I read work for a lot of people) they didn't all work the same way for me. So I had to modify them. But I think that as with everything in life, learning and practice takes time and makes you better at what you are doing, so I hope that in few years I will have much better knowledge of this (after many trials and errors) :)
