I need someone to help me regarding cron job.

Im having an issue on hostgator that i'm pretty sure is going to get me booted, if i cant solve it. They have already deactivated my account twice because of heavy CPU usage - something about crons job. I have no idea what is a crons job and the importance of it.

I just a have an ordinary family friendly niche site. Nothing too complicated. please someone help.

Anyways here's the email hostgator sent me:

"At this time your account is using excessive CPU cycles please evaluate or stop the cron jobs as they appear to be resulting in your account consuming excessive CPU cycles.

Please let us know once you have completed your maintenance and provide us with information regarding the changes performed so we may verify and confirm then check to see if the issue is resolved."

Can anyone help me. I am losing traffic and income as hostgator keeps putting restrictions on my account. please pm me if you can help.

Cron is nothing but a scheduler that kicks off given tasks or jobs at a specified time. So, you need to look at any scripts or tasks you have set up to run at specific times. Is there some script built into your site that performs certain functions when called. If you don't know what any of this means, you may have to get back with Hostgator support and have them give you more info, like what processes are running when the cpu overload takes place.

Cron is the "thing" that takes care of the scheduled tasks on a unix and similar system. High CPU happens with WP for instance if you have a plugin like StatsPress and some decent traffic. It came to a point that was so annoying for me that I ditched the whole WP altogether. No need to resort to such extreme measures, but it's probably some poorly written plugin so you might want to check that out.

This is usually due to a very inefficient autoblog script. It's blamed on cron but it's just the autoblogger running heavy searches filtering and posts.

I am looking for someone to do the work for me. Are there anyone available.

if not can I get some step by step instructions on how to get this fixed.

I had a cron issue with an incorrectly configured phpmaillist - if that helps

You could try asking hg to be more specific. I sometimes ask them what exactly is causing the issue and they point out which plug in is causing the problem. If you are using autoblog plugins they can cause an issue, also statpress is no good on high traffic blogs. You can also check cron jobs in your cpanel and see if any are set up to run too often. Otherwise it could be wp cron which runs when a visitor visits I think.

I found its best to have a reseller account and strictly one site per cpanel account. Or you could upgrade to vps.

I had the exact same issue a couple weeks ago with one of my WP sites on Hostgator. My site was suspended 3 times before the issue was resolved. I followed the instructions from http://buildyourblog.net/problems/disable-wp-cron-running-background and the problem went away (I'm still running stats and all my plugins now, cpu is always low even with 500+ concurrent users). For me the issue came up once I started getting more users visiting the blog, so maybe it's the same in your case. Take a look at the information provided in the link, hopefully that helps.

Also I assume you've followed Hostgator's guide for reducing load on the server via caching? Another thing I did is to optimize the site's load time by doing things to increase my Page Speed Grade and YSlow grade. You can get free reports by putting your website in http://gtmetrix.com and looking at the results. I started at Page Speed of 78% and YSlow of 68% and optimized it to Page Speed of 97% and YSlow of 82%. On a shared host you won't be able to optimize things like expired headers, but I found it wasn't necessary at the end. If you need more information you can PM me and we can chat over Skype about how I resolved it. Good luck!

Today I feel generous, so if you would prefer to change your hosting provider, I will give you 2 months of free hosting on our servers and have a look at your script to fix the load issues. PM me if you are interested.

Just email hostgator, they'll fix it or at least tell you how to fix it. Their support is without question the best I've ever experienced.

this is why I moved away from hostgator - way too professional for my liking disabling and enabling whenever they feel like it
