I just tried setting up word press for the first time and am having issues already. It told me to update and that it would do it automatically. Well, I click update and let it do it's thing and then I get this message anytime I try to access wordpress on my site:

Warning: require(/home/u524617421/public_html/wp-includes/date.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/u524617421/public_html/wp-settings.php on line 117 Fatal error: require(): Failed opening required '/home/u524617421/public_html/wp-includes/date.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php') in /home/u524617421/public_html/wp-settings.php on line 117

How the heck do I fix this and get the update to work? I've Googled this problem and couldn't find any answers.

Best way to install wp is through cpanel using softaculous if you even have an option to go through cpanel. That insures me aways it's a successful install and then update when needed hasn't ever been a problem. Sorry not to much of an expert myself just saying the way I always install wp.. See the link for help reference on what I was explaining..

Since its the first time, you probably didn't have anything on your website, so just download the latest version of wordpress and install that to your website, or just use your cpanel if your hosting has one to install wp from softaculous or something similar.

Or just upload it using the c-panel file manager option. The best way as stated above is through an automatic installer like softaculous. Just make sure you have the login details sent to your email.

I would also change the database field names from wp_198 to something unique like str_623 to add a layer of protection from hackers.

All of that is wayyyy over my head. I'm just starting out and was told I needed wordpress..

I do have an autoinstaller in my CP. It doesn't say who its ran through but that's how I installed WP on my site. It worked.

BUT, when it tells me word press needs to update.. I click update and then get that message as stated in my OP.

    So now I'm lost.

Maybe I'm installing it wrong to begin with?

Do I need to install it to mydomainname.com

    OR

    make a directory and do : mydomainname.com/wordpress ???

Does it matter? If so, why? (help me understand)

    I really don't understand what's going on.......

If I install wordpress to: MyDomainName.com/Wordpress and I do the auto update it works just fine.

If I install wordpress to: MyDomainName.com/ and I do the update, it doesn't work and I get the message as stated in my OP.

This time I did the update and it said:

Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in /home/u555089194/public_html/wp-admin/includes/class-wp-filesystem-direct.php on line 172

Please help. I just want to get wordpress working so I can start my first site.

    Thanks
