Okay so I saw on a support post on a Tumblr bot's forum and it was talking about mass bans and people agreed that they lost a large amount of accounts.

I mean.. a LARGE amount of accounts.

He lost 2000 tumblr accounts???

What do you do with 2000 accounts? I mean, if he lost 2000 than that means he probably had a lot more than 2000. Is it logical to have this many accounts? For what purpose would you do this?

Tumblr has a total of 291 million blogs, which is obviously going to be larger than the number of users. Then the number of active users is less. An article on BusinessInsider states "Kafka says a source familiar with the company tells him that it probably has 30-50 million active users".

So you can follow 5000 per account. If you follow 5000 with each account that's 2000*5000 which is 10,000,000. So to max out that you'd be planning on following (at least) 1/5 of all active tumblr users? It would seem impossible to scrape those numbers of users. Is this really logical, or are they not even using this for following?

Could they be using it for SEO? It seems that it would adversely effect a site SEO-wise with that many but I could be wrong here.. So my best bet is that this is the purpose.

Then it goes for proxies. I'm sure they scrape public proxies here, or do they buy (or own) 2000+ private proxies for their accounts?

Then the next question would be about the emails for the accounts. I'm sure if you're creating 2000 you would have to use a catch-all email, right? But wouldn't Tumblr detect 2000 emails with the same domain which isn't an email host? Or do they actually just create 2000 email accounts?

I'm just too curious to what you'd be doing with 2000 accounts, or moreso how you'd be doing it. I manage 50 right now I'm just letting grow, but should I scale it up (by 1950 blog)? Haha.

You can buy email accs, you don't have to create those yourself.
And they don't use public proxies, i'm pretty sure about that, not just because most of those are abused to hell and blacklisted pretty much everywhere, but because public proxies are slow, unreliable and also can be a security risk.

I'm not that big in tumblr, but i can imagine with a few thousand accs, if you perform mass tasks, you can own pretty much any hashtag for instance.
Or if you don't use the accs for mass tasks, you can use them normally, as if it would be 1 acc or 10, but it's actually thousands, so you will get a lot more traffic.

If you already manage 50 accs - i assume you don't do it manually - it's just a matter of funds to manage more.

If you have the budget and experience in botting, everything is possible.

yeah many use tumblr accounts for SEO, Maybe they are doing CPA or CPI or something like that....I know guys with 5k above twitter accounts they start with 10 accounts as they make money out of it they keep investing and increasing it purpose can be different but goal is to make money through them :)

I guess so but I just couldn't imagine that you would need so many blogs, or how they hide the fact that they're all from one person.

Starting with 10 and increasing up to 5K accounts, that sounds pretty solid. I guess it does have a purpose it's only that I imagined as far as having 500 accounts and that would be more than enough.

Lol i'm having 4000 account and none of them are banned

I don't use 1000 or 2000 accounts on Tumblr because its too hard to manage without any loss. I use 50-100 accounts on Tumblr to manage easily and effectively without any loss.

that's my question too.

i used to have 45 accounts. the way i did it is to follow users from the 'followback' thread. with the new users on the thread, anything more than 45 accounts will be following duplicate users. i am talking about 'fresh' users. i follow 200 per day per account. i dont see the point of having duplicate followers across my accounts. my approach did not have a niche, just to get high follow back rate.

if you use niche approach, how do you manage 1000s of niches? i have a hard time finding 10s of niches already. if you are doing adult, are there really that many UNIQUE users?

from what i understand, you get banned easily with CPA links. and my 100s of thousands of 'backlinks' (from webmaster tools) gave me ABSOLUTELY nothing (maybe because i did not 'cover the footprint'). also, mass liking doesnt work anymore.

so i cant imagine the use of 1000s of accounts either ...

Tumblr is great for reverse seo and it's easy to create that many accounts by hand. I started my first tumblr back in 2011 .... and think 2 or 3 new per day for 5 years and you get the idea, how many a person can create. Most of them will stick forever unless they use footprints that can be avoided, easily. Not everybody builds xxxx tumblrs over night.

in total is have around 500 ..... but i am really active there any more. lost a lot of my accounts and the engagement is low.
