On August 30th, Google announced that it now supports AVIF, and I’ve noticed an increase in people starting to use AVIF lately. Is it logical to switch to AVIF instead of WEBP from now on, or is it still too early to adopt AVIF? Would it be beneficial?

WebP is working quite well right now; sometimes change takes time, we should wait...

I've been seeing quite a bit of people using it for much longer before last August. But I don't plan on switching.

What real advantage does it have over Webp?

I think I read somewhere that AVIF has some security implications

Ensure that your target audience is using browsers that support AVIF as some older browsers may not be compatible with it but it's rapidly gaining adoption across major browsers.
