Have you ever pissed off a client..?

I outsourced most of my development work to India and I made a mistake of hiring a unprofessional developer to develop this design that I did. Being new in the industry, i couldn't tell the difference and only realized that it was such a bad job after the client complained to me.

To cut the story short, the client shifted to a new company. It have been a few years since but i found out that the client have been bad mouthing me to every single person that ever asked him and on top of that, he gave my mobile number to a competitor .

I was very angry and we all make mistakes. Seriously, we do. I did apologize to the client but he's (he's a male, can you believe it?) so god damn petty and on the surface, although he seems like he did accept the apology but deep down, i know he's not going to accept it.

I hate petty idiots.

IMO you're the idiot in this instance. If you don't know what you're doing then leave it to those that do.

That's one of my worst fears, is making a client angry. So I always do exactly what I say I'm gonna do and never promise more than I know I can offer.

Nothing is perfect in this world , we all have to learn from mistake , so that we won't make the same mistakes again .

I run a guest posting service, and for one client I added his G+ to the wrong account, called him the wrong name and got his article published on a pr1 site (he'd requested pr3+ only) all in the same day, he was soooo p*ssed! I was tired but absolutely no excuse, I felt lousy for ages, pulled myself together and did him 2 freebies on pr5 sites - it seemed to make up for it I think that so long as we learn from our mistakes (I triple check every detail before submitting anything now!) it's all part of the growing process.

Ray, honestly mate you're trying to shift the blame to your unprofessional developer when it was 110% your responsibility. He had and has every right to bad mouth you because you wasted his time selling shit.

Kind of agree with the "do not even think about outsourcing when you have no way to ensure that the result is what you agreed on" approach. I outsourced quite a bunch of programming jobs (I can do it, but I do not really like it) and 9 out of 10 times it was kind of a mess. Both on peanut payments and high tickets. So better do your homework.

The more parties are involved the smaller profit margins will get and chances of misunderstandings are increasing on the other hand. Have been there. IF you are outsourcing you better tell your client upfront. On the end of the day most of them do not really mind! Tell them that it will decrease costs while speeding up dev-time and include kind of a buffer within you own contract you are signing with YOUR customer. No one will blame you if you deliver to early, but when you exceed promised due dates it might cost you a cllient.

Clients on the other hand are a quite different. I wipe out the cheap skates and that ones that won't fill out any project requirement forms upfront and tell the others that I have strict rules (e.g. no changes after approval). The more specific you are the more business you should be able to handle in a fashion that does not only provide you with a chair on the other end of the table but also without replacing one boss with another...

You never outsource to someone unless you know 100% their work is quality and you have previously spoken to them...

I did, when I was a kid and came to freelancer arena for the first time (back in 2006 I guess).. It was a Joomla project and I really knew nothing about it, but said yes to the project LOL I feel like an idiot when I remember it

What you basically should look to do is ask for the project flow and database design. If the coder in question is a n00b, he won't be able to provide you something satisfying. This is also a reason why people ask for SRS docs...
