I tried searching for this but couldnt find anything that made it clear to me. If I am looking to rank for a local business, for example I want to rank the company for the search term "New York Auto Repair".....is "New York Auto Repair" one keyword or is each separate word ("new" "york" etc..) a keyword. If I am looking to order SEO from the BST section for a local business and the term I want to rank the business for is "Miami Shoe Store" would that be 3 KW's and would you need to specify that they are grouped together as one term?

No problem. Whoever is providing the service would determine whether you're keyword is one word or four words. BUT, most likely, "New york auto repair" is one keyword.

Correct it's one keyword phrase or just a single "keyword" in almost all circumstances the keywords you will try to rank for while be a phrase of two or more individual words.

Even though is actually a keyword phrase, for any other purpose is ust one kw.

Think of a keyword as a couple of words that convey a thought, action, command or request.

Had one more question involving keywords hope to get some more good answers like the ones above. Lets say I am looking to rank for "Auto repair Albany NY" is the kw "Albany NY Auto Repair" a completely different kw? If just looking to rank "auto repair Albany" will SEO work for the kw "Albany Auto Repair", have any effect on the kws "auto repair Albany" and "auto repair albany NY" or is each variation completely independent of each other?

^^hope I can get some help with this it is confusing me a bit at the moment.......to simplify my question a bit would doing SEO for the keyword "thai food albany ny" have any effect on the keyword "thai food albany"? And would rewording the keyword completely change it in("albany thai food" is a completely seperate KW from the first two mentioned?) Thanks and hope to get some feed back on this!!

They are different keywords, however, they will build on each other. Google see's them in context and can tell what is relevant. You could optimize for "albany auto repair" and google might show your site when someone searches for "auto repair albany," if there isn't a lot of competition, you can rank well for both of those keywords. But if you go full force behind "albany auto repair," and the shop across the street is going full force behind "auto repair albany," They will likely rank higher for their kw, with you showing up below them, and you will rank higher for your kw with them below.

However, with how smart search engines are getting, it's more about the content. They are able to see what has higher value, and it's relevancy. Over the course of doing SEO you might end up ranking very well for keywords you never were targeting, just because you have rich content relevant to those keywords.

When you try to rank for many longtail keywords you do get benefit in short keywords . For example :-

If you will try to rank for "thai food albany ny", "thai food albany CA", " thai food albany US" etc. you will get benefit in ranking for "thai food albany" and "thai food".
