apparently this is not a glitch. been going on for more than a month now.

now when i search for a tag, the top posts show basically random posts, not supposedly popular posts. some have just a few likes. some of the top posts dont even contain the searched tag.

so what's the point now of even using tags? i am totally lost. what's going on?

I recently noticed the same thing going on on my end as well. However, it seemed random in the sense that sometimes the top posts would actually be highly liked uploads while it'd sporadically choose to display random images.

Not sure what's going on but I feel that some kind of transition is taking place on the platform.

actually, i would say they sporadically show highly liked. i have monopolized certain tags for over 1.5 years. (i knew how to.) now i could not even get in there once.

if people search (by hashtag) and always get garbage, wouldnt that be a frustrating experience?

Huge number of likes were enough to get you in the top posts in the past but that's not how it works anymore.

Now, Instagram puts a lot more factors into consideration apart from just the number of likes. These are not limited to but include things like the age of the account, the number of followers you have, the amount of content, quality of content, hashtags used on them, amount of engagement they have received, number of people you're following and a lot of other things.

Trial and error is the key always. Keep experimenting with different things and if you do it right, you will be on the top posts in no time.
