Short videos are very similar to TikToks in my opinion. I specifically go to YouTube when I want longer videos or tutorials to watch.

I think YouTube didn’t lose its spirit — it just became more optimized. As competition increased, creators started focusing more on retention, thumbnails, and algorithm signals instead of pure creativity. The platform improved in terms of reach and monetization, but it does feel more formula-driven now.
Yeah it definitely improved with monetizing. I think they lowered the subscriber requirement from 1000 to 500 not too long ago

I think YouTube feels worse when you’re browsing in incognito mode or using a brand-new Gmail account. But when you’re logged into your personal account where the algorithm is already trained on your preferences (subscriptions / watch history), nothing really seems to have changed. I have 0 brain rot content on my main account homepage.

YouTube has definitely shifted toward algorithm-driven, short-form, and attention-grabbing content, which can feel repetitive. Many creators and viewers miss longer, original, storytelling-driven videos that focused on creativity and depth rather than just clicks.

I don't think YouTube has lost its original spirit; it's shifted to an ecosystem that operates based on performance. With analytics becoming central, creativity has to compete with optimization. But I don't think it's worse either. Higher barriers to entry, higher production quality, more professional storytelling. What we've lost is spontaneity, but what we've gained is meticulousness

YouTube has definitely lost its old spirit. The algorithm now forces creators to make cookie-cutter content instead of original art. Everything is clickbait and Shorts now. I miss the era when people uploaded videos for fun rather than just chasing the highest CPM.

That's true, and also, after watching too many short videos, I find it difficult to watch long videos. Does that happen to you too? For example, when watching long videos, I keep pausing them, and I don't even know why I do it.

YouTube feels more polished now, but also more algorithm-driven and repetitive. Clickbait and short attention content dominate because that’s what performs. The old raw, creative, personality-driven videos are definitely missed.

In the past, authors were more sincere and closer to their audience. Nowadays, there are flashy previews with text covering the entire screen and repetitive content. It was definitely better in the past.

I don't know, I think even if YouTube's algorithm has improved, it doesn't really direct users to educational and useful content. The content it directs them to, while seemingly helpful, is often empty. Or maybe that's just my experience.

I think the platform has grown a lot, but the algorithm definitely pushed creators toward similar formats. I do miss the earlier days when content felt more experimental and less optimized for clicks.
Everyone making similar videos with voice over, the ones that stand out are those who can keep people engaged and provide information in a flow manner where it almost feels natural and you keep watching the video. The ones using AI scripts and editing won't work and YT will eventually phase these channels out of the recommendations

We agree on this point; it's not just YouTube, Instagram and X have done the same. They're directing their algorithms solely based on clicks and likes. In my opinion, Facebook is still the best in this regard.

This. You have very little room for maneuver now with titles, thumbnails, and even content alignment for retention. In the past, you could experiment on YouTube. now, it’s more of a playbook where established channels with an existing audience have a massive advantage.

same here sometimes. utube has certainly improved its professionalism but much of the personality has been stripped out in favor of whichever format is getting the hits that week. there is no denying that there was more authenticity back then when u had random niche channels doing videos just bcz they were genuinely interessted in their topic.
The most hated thing about today's YouTubers are the click bait and dake thumbnails action.Also nowadays content creator can't be completed to back a Days yt creator genuinely missing those yt days
