Has SEO really died in 2026?

Local niches still very much alive and probably would stay that way for a long time.
I also have the same feeling that local SEO would be there for long term until we become master on it and google has nothing to do other than interfare with constants updates. (though they are doing it on a regular basis. )

Lately I’ve noticed that my own search habits have changed a lot. In the past, I used to search almost everything on Google, but now many times I just ask AI instead. Because of that, I’m wondering: is SEO still worth doing, or is it slowly dying?

From what I’ve researched so far, there are still some SEO niches that seem to be doing relatively well, such as:

  • SEO Download (software, apps, files, etc.)
  • SEO Tools (websites that provide utilities or tools)
  • Adult SEO (18+)
  • Movie / streaming SEO
  • Novel / manga SEO
  • Betting / gambling SEO
  • Real-time data SEO (sports scores, crypto prices, weather, etc.)
Besides these, are there any other SEO niches that are still strong and less affected by AI?

I’d really appreciate hearing insights from people who are still active in SEO. Thanks!
SEO hasn't died.

You are right that people now seek alternatives like AI instead of search engines. I also do the same. But it is mostly for quick answers, and not as replacement. Search engines are still prioritised for deeper information, options, comparisons, people still rely on search.

However, what I've noticed is that there is decline in generic content and more value in high-intent and experience-based content.
Also, beyond the niches you mentioned, areas like local SEO, product reviews, comparisons and user-generated content are still working. So, SEO is just evolving fast.

They've been trying to kill SEO since 2014–16, but people still flock here and invest in it. For those who keep asking this, SEO is dead, traffic is dead, move on to another niche, guys

I think AI is reducing low-effort, informational SEO, but not replacing it entirely. Anything transactional, local, or trust-based still performs well. Also, brand-driven searches and communities are becoming more important than ever.

SEO isn’t dying, just shifting. AI kills generic info queries, but anything with intent (tools, comparisons, transactions) still works well. Niche + unique data > mass content now
