Has SEO really died in 2026?

Lately I’ve noticed that my own search habits have changed a lot. In the past, I used to search almost everything on Google, but now many times I just ask AI instead. Because of that, I’m wondering: is SEO still worth doing, or is it slowly dying?

From what I’ve researched so far, there are still some SEO niches that seem to be doing relatively well, such as:

  • SEO Download (software, apps, files, etc.)
  • SEO Tools (websites that provide utilities or tools)
  • Adult SEO (18+)
  • Movie / streaming SEO
  • Novel / manga SEO
  • Betting / gambling SEO
  • Real-time data SEO (sports scores, crypto prices, weather, etc.)
Besides these, are there any other SEO niches that are still strong and less affected by AI?

I’d really appreciate hearing insights from people who are still active in SEO. Thanks!

As a matter of fact, SEO has always been a zombie :anyway:

SEO is like the documentation to a software. You can't expect the documentation to stay the same while the software gets new updates.

SEO isn’t dying it’s changing. Many people now use AI, but search traffic from Google is still huge, especially for transactional or real-time queries where users want specific websites or tools.

The niches you mentioned are still strong. Other SEO niches that continue to perform well include:

Local SEO (services, clinics, restaurants)

E-commerce/product SEO

Finance & comparison sites (loans, insurance, credit cards)

Health information

Travel SEO

B2B / SaaS software SEO

AI often summarizes information, but users still click websites for tools, products, services, or detailed content. So SEO is still valuable, just more focused on quality, authority, and useful content.
 
Still in 2026 SEO is not dead, but changing a lot, with normal SEO you have to do local SEO and Geo Ai SEO, yes people now a days search on ai but if you well optimize your site for LLM too then you can get traffic from AI mentions too.
 
SEO on YouTube for example is very alive. You need good content that converts too. Otherwise your SEO won't do shit.
 
Wouldn't say dead, but writing generic blogs in 2026 would be considered a waste of time.

Local niches still very much alive and probably would stay that way for a long time.
 
SEO is not dying but low value informational content is getting replaced by ai answers

Niches with strong intent like local services saas tools finance and lead generation are still very resilient and harder for ai to replace

SEO isn't disappearing, even as search habits change due to AI. Google still needs websites as a data source for its search results and AI systems. Beyond niches like downloads, streaming, and gambling, other areas where SEO remains strong include local SEO (local services), product reviews/comparisons, B2B & SaaS, finance, healthcare, and in-depth guides. Generally speaking, content that requires real-world experience, up-to-date data, or is relevant to purchasing decisions is still difficult for AI to replace.
 
seo isn’t dying, it’s shifting. ai is reducing simple informational searches, but high intent queries still rely on search. transactional, comparison, local, and real-time niches still perform well. people click when they need to take action. ai is increasing demand for trusted sources, so sites with strong authority, good content, and diversified backlinks are still growing.
 
AI is reducing clicks for basic informational content, but high-intent, tool-based, local, and real-time niches are still strong and growing. Businesses still rely on SEO for traffic, leads, and sales.

SEO isn’t dying what still works in Google search are utility sites, real time data, local services, and strong brands, while generic AI written blogs are losing traction.

seo not dead, just harder now. google still huge and ai also pulls data from sites so traffic still there. low quality stuff dying but real value sites still win. good niches now are tools, local services, finance, health, real-time data. so yeah still worth doing but need better quality content now.
 
The same thing is asked every few weeks and I see same replies all over again. It's like deja vu again and again.
 
SEO not dead just changed a lot.

Info sites getting hit but local lead gen and parasite pages still pull traffic. AI cant replace fresh or local intent yet so thats where money is.
 
Stop asking the same question every month, SEO isn’t dead and it wont, it’s shifting. AI is replacing informational searches, but transactional, real-time, and intent-driven niches still perform strongly. Beyond your list, local SEO, SaaS, comparison/review sites, and B2B lead gen are still solid. The key now is building authority, brand signals, and unique value, not just ranking pages.
 
I don't think SEO is dead , it's just changing with new trends and algorithms.
