Has Google Keyword Planner Tool ever misled you?

Do you have any experiences of over-relying on Google Keyword Planner Tool which resulted
    in off-target marketing?

No, the tool is quite reliable and there is no viable alternative to it.

Understand one more thing. Some keywords are automatically changed by Google during search. For example, there might be people searching for "goole inc" but Google would assume it as a typo and automatically changed it to results for "Google Inc" when showing results. Google autocorrects a lot of the search terms. Some keywords are not "interest generating keywords" and people do not click through to the results. So, try to avoid those too. Research everything in proper detail before targeting a keyword.

    ok thanks for the responses.

    Can anyone explain this.

3 years ago I was looking on Google Keyword tool and saw a niche for a service. Let's say it was "candle stick makers new york" which had 800 people looking for the
    service each month.

So, because of this, I launched a site and within 5 months I was ranking number # 1 on Google but never really made any substantial income off the site. Level of people
emailing or phoning about the service was about 3 or 4 people a week. BTW, it was a quality site, with targeted information, contact address, local phone number and nice to look at.

According to the Google Keyword tool loads of people were looking for this service but this website proved otherwise. What do you think happened and where were these 800 people? :)

so you made a website and ranked number one. Here is a question, Did you rank #1 when searching with NY IP address?
How many UV per month did your website get?
If people have to call or send an email depending on the niche this could decrease your conversions.
Alot of variables here can result in low conversions
