Everyone tell me that java is suppose to be the easiest and programming friendly language because of its object everthing.
However i find java frustrating when creating something where i really want it to do specific things. Only other language
i know is C++ but only the basic learned from a intro course.

If any1 has accomplished this, that would be nice to know. I'm going into my junior yr of college as a CS major and most of my courses so far are going to be java, would be nice to know if this is possible.

Just found out that you can just download the api's and follow the tutorials then go from their.

    Me too bro,
just transferred from a CC. Good luck! Always go hard on your projects, being a minimalist isn't going to teach much

OP, I can't answer your question directly mate, but I can tell you this. If you learn JAVA well, you'll have a much easier time to learn and code in other languages. Plus it will come in handy in plenty of times.

    Java is perfect language.
If you need really multithreaded software use Java, Perl, C++ etc.
If you want to code quickly use Python. But forghet about hundreds/thousands requests per second.

I have quite a bit experience with writing Java bots/scrapers - not for social media sites though. Java should be quite suited for the task, but you can also go with Python, which has a broader scraper-community afaik. Depending on your needs, you may need to use a testing-framework like Selenium to get your task programmed. Selenium is awesome, but comparatively slow and memory consuming, since it employs a real browser to do the bot actions. Many sites can be accessed in a more direct approach if you reverse-engineer the AJAX calls and call them directly. This is quite time consuming at first, but you will soon get the hang of it. Technologies you may need are: css-selectors, XPath, Jsoup (or equivalent lib in the language you use), Selenium webdriver, PhantomJs, JSON

I like python. It has lots of built-in/third party libraries for webscraping.

    -urllib
    -BeautifulSoup
    -Selenium (bindings)
    -mechanized
    -pyphantomjs

Java is a great language. And yes it can be hard sometimes, but i tell you, it would be a lot easier to learn other languages if you know how to write in java. and it'll always comes in handy. If you want a multithreaded programs, then you're on the right track (java,c++).
