Has anybody recovered a dropped domain/website?

Please don't confuse dropped domains with expired domains.

I have never bought dropped domains before.

Is it possible to recover them completely like expired domains? The domain I found had 10k visits a month and then dropped (whois reset).

Not sure if it's worth the gamble.

Interesting question. Never bothered with dropped domains, neither. I doubt that Google makes a difference between expired and dropped domains, though.

I run 10-12 websites that were made using expired domains that had traffic.

It works very well, just make sure the following conditions are met:

1. The domain should not have an un-natural traffic spike and drop
2. The domain should be indexed in google
3. The domain should not have been inactive for more than 3-4 months.
4. The link profile and anchor texts should be clean and not spammy.

Once that checks out, just rebuilt the complete website with archive.org , lot of services on fiverr to do this.

In the first sentence, I explicitly said not to confuse expired and dropped domains.
I am not interested in expired domains in this thread.

Dropped domain is when the whois resets completely so you buy it as a "brand new" domain and not from an auction.

I want to know too. I just bought a Dropped domain from 2005 (now its 2023) with many good backlinks like lemonde, Wikipedia, europe1, Lacroix, nouvelobs, Francetvinfo, but i’m not sure if its worst the work and time, as it considered like a new domain
