Why exactly do you think Google created/acquired: +1, youtube, gmail, google maps, android phones, google checkout, google books, etc... Do you really think Google is creating these things for a "rainy day" when Google loses it's popularity?

Everything Google creates is directly related to their search engine's ad placements. When you YouTube a video, read a Google Book, or visit a website on your Android Phone, Google knows more about your interests which lets them generate more targeted ads for you to click on making them more money.

How is this a result of them screwing with their search results?

I actually predicted this 6 weeks ago.. I WAS RIGHT!
