hacked site backlinks

Anyone ever seen those sites that look like they have been hacked and have a mass of links near the bottom that don't fit? I see them around from time to time. Anyonje know if they do that buy putting a backdoor into a theme or something?

I had some older versions of wordpress that it happened on, it wasn't the theme though, it was a vulnerability in that particular version of wordpress. Nonetheless a theme backdoor should do the trick as well I would imagine.

Hmm I saw some sites today with just that exploit being abused wordpress 2.8.6

I may be imagining things, but I think that is the exact version that I got hit on It was on a few sites that I setup right around the same time with the same version, all got hit at once.

yeah seems to be any WP installation older than 2.9 is affected. have been doing some scrapping.. there are lots out there LOL!

Is this just for research? Because I didn't realize that you were planning on exploiting this when you asked?

i think putting link on footer are very seoless, it does not make sense

LOL I aint. I want to know know which versions it goes back to! am going to do a blog post about it on a blog of mine! I dont encourage this sort of stuff!

You can look up wordpress exploits and find out what versions were vulnerable. These links are really easy to get. Easier than profiles or comments or anything but there's a clear paper trail to you and you might go to jail.
