Guy Sued For $4,000. Over Using $10. Pic, Sans Permission

Most owners of the images do not sue you.
Mainly because you probably do not have the money to pay.

so they try to scare you.

if you have deep pockets..... prepare to get sued.

Had quite a few of these letters over the years, always told them to get fucked.

They sent a few more letters then disappeared.

This said, if you are making sites for other companies and charging them you should license your images correctly. You may see through this extortion scam, however your clients may not.

how unfortunate to hear pal. thanks for sharing though - i'm sure most ppl think "i'll never get caught"

whatever, I would have pulled the image and avoided all contact from the lawyers from that day on. GUARANTEE they would not pursue you it's just not worth the money or the risk. DUDE when a lawyer demands money NEVER pay! only pay when you have a court date, if there is no court date the lawyer has to do alot of work to get the money. ONLY a JUDGE can make you pay a penny and it could take years in court. Have I actually done this? yes. I had a law firm try to get me to contact them and give them damages, I never responded, they threatened, then left me alone, what are they going to sue thousands of internet users? no, they just want your money. It's a scam perpatrated by lawyers. peace.

ha didn't realize I agreed with zen here, it is a scam NEVER pay a lawyer or anyone else when they threaten to sue. Remember you are 1 in a million to them, they do this to thousands of people just to collect money. I have read of sooo many people paying lawyers just because they sent them a letter threating to sue. peace.
