Hi I installed the plugin on a new site and did the changes you suggested. But now all my posts show ERROR 404 - PAGE NOT FOUND but my home page is working. When I deactivate the plugin everything is back to normal. Do you know what the problem is?

I also suggest to use bulletproofsecurity plugin it is allows you to protect your important files on your blog (wp-config.php, php.ini and php5.ini) through a file. Htaccess. There is a mode for the technical work on the blog. Disables error messages, hiding the version of Wordpress and the rights to check the folders and files.

Try this.

Activate the plugin, and than go to Tweaks tab and turn everything off.

Then see if the website is working. If it does, just turn one feature at the time in Tweak tab to isolate the problem.
 
Thanks, but it didn't help. The strange thing is I installed it on another blog with the exact same setup and there it works perfectly. Are there other plugins that just as good? I normally use Wordpress Firewall 2, Secure WordPress and login lockdown to secure my websites. Is this just as good? Or should I work more on getting Better WP Security running?
 
Biggest security issue with WP is that you can't hide the fact the site runs on WP. If somebody wants to hack you all he has to do is wait for a zero-day exploit and you're screwed.
 
OriginalEXE fixed my site that was infected by a wordpress malware script, my web hosting company just messed up the theme and ruined the site and i almost lost hope and then i contacted OriginalEXE he fixed my site within an hour not only this he also checked rest of the sites on my hosting account :D thank u OriginalEXE u r the best!!
 
I had my site hacked.
Then installed better wp security.
Ever since (3-4 months) I have messages popping that someone has been blocked for this or that. No issues :)
Good plugin.

Why do they make these for free? They should charge at least $10.

Try Bulletproof security.
 
I totally agree that this thread should be sticky. The OP has gone to a lot of work to help us all here and it is essential information from a man that knows WP inside and out. Plus reps are also in order here. keep up the excellent work EXE.
 
i need help before upgrading the wordpress for 3.4.1 and now i can't access my site..or even the admin panel..it always show down for maintenance...even tried to upload the wordpress 3.4.1 to the ftp and overwrite all..even tried to delete all the plugins and themes..also change the DB_version in cpanel...still i cant access anything...

This may not be advisable, but I personally never upgrade a version of Wordpress until I really have to.

You can always bank on something not working properly.
