[Guide] - How to get free Copyscape checks

OK, so this guide is short and sweet but should save a bunch of folk hassle and cost and is easy to do.

Problem

• Copyscape only provide 10 free searches per month per domain/IP
• Copyscape premium costs 3c per search (up to 200 words)
  plus 1c per extra 100 words.

Solution

• IP workaround - Use a VPN to rotate IP's.

Personally I use Windscribe as a free VPN and simply reconnect each time the copyscape IP limit kicks in, but you can use any other VPN you want, or reset your home router or mobile IP. Basically, you just need a new IP.

• Domain workaround - Create a new subdomain (free with hosts like namecheap), install WP, copy the content you want to check to a new page. Rinse and repeat.

I have a ton of domains and mostly I just use these to give me as many free checks as I want, deleting the posts/pages once you are done. But you can make do with the single domain and creating subdomains hack to give you unlimited checks per month.

How I use it?

I need to check content that is written for me (I always do this, regardless of what proof the writer sends me!), as I am rewriting competitor articles, and also when I want to check articles I find on archive.org. I use this method pretty much every day.

Last Thoughts

Obviously this is not the copyscape premium account which allows you to check a whole site en masse or any of the other features, but it personally works for me and I hope it helps some of you.

Already knew that, but thanks for sharing. Copyscape is already cheap enough so I would rather just pay for my searches.

Your welcome. Sometimes free methods help those that are starting out. Nothing flash with this, just a simple workaround for those that need it + I am a cheap skate.

Too hard to patch unless they tighten up their fingerprinting or remove the free checks. So likely to be just fine.

That would be an awful lot of work for little gain. Shame they don't sell an agency plan, as you could sell services off that on Fiverr.

Absolutely, great idea. Any site you can host text can be used for simple checks with little effort.
