If you have Google analytics installed then you might be missing out on a little gem of a setting in GA!

Did you know that you can track what people are searching for when they're actually on your website? (that's if you have a search function on your website) I am quite surprised on how many people do not know how valuable this setting is, or know about it!

Firstly you will need to find out your websites query string so you need to go to your website and run a search, here is a couple of examples:

Using BHW search query string would be this:

Or most wordpress sites would be something like this:

Got your query ID now? right follow below:

Go to your Google analytic's account and follow these screen shots

Then click follow this;

And you should see this :

When you have put in the URL go to your GA account and follow this screen shot

Keep a track of this function, if you notice that you have an increase of searches on your website but don't have any content based on that term then get writing, it can improve your CTR and traffic in a big way!

Hmm thanks for sharing, but my question would be you need a google search right? Custom programmed ones don't work?

Other than that it looks cool, too bad i can't use it.

If you have a search function on your site then you can use this, you DO NOT need Google search

If you have a search query string this work, I have this on 35 clients and not a single one uses Google search = custom only

Take note, I used BHW as a reference and BHW doesn't use google search

I'm surprised this thread doesn't have many replies. This could be very useful in building authority sites, after you have some decent ranking pages.

It's also very good at findin keywords you might not of head of before

great post

pity no-one uses the search function on my site. I give them 3 menu's to choose from instead.

True.
I already have a decent list of keywords for my authority site, but I believe this will help quite a bit. I'll be using this for tags, mostly. :>
