Hello everyone, Hope you are having a great day.

I am sure that this guide could benefit a lot of new people who are just starting out and do not want to compromise their video quality, as we all know most of the free or "easy" to use video editors usually result in a horrific quality loss and we don't want that!

Please note that DaVinci Resolve is a professional editing software that will EAT your computer's resources, so don't try and play games when you are rendering. General browsing will still work fine.

This guide will be super beginner friendly, and after reading this guide, EVERYONE will be able to cut and merge videos without losing any video quality.

Downloading, installing and understanding DaVinci Resolve

First, let's download the software and install it on our computer.
Download Link - The download is from their official website. (If I am not allowed to post this download link, please delete)
If the download link gets deleted, Just search DaVinci Resolve in google and you'll find it no problemo.

Scroll down and pick the free version.
The free version operates just the same as the paid one, only lacking a few add-ons which are not really necessary for our purpose.

2. During installation, it will ask if you are familiar with any other editing software and would like to apply a template. I chose Adobe because that's what I've been using prior.

3. Click on create a new project on the bottom right, choose a project name, and hit okay. You will now see the following :

4. Drag videos from your folder to the green box. You will most likely have a pop-up asking you if you want to change the framerate of the project to match the video. Always click yes.

5. Drag the first video in the sequence to the blue box.
The blue box is a slider where you can go to any part of the video you like using this red pointer :

The Yellow box is the most important one.
The yellow box displays the frames, basically zooming in on the blue box, so we will use it a lot for precision cutting. Similar to the blue box, it has a red slider.

Red box - In the red box we will only use two options : Cut and Deliver.
Cut is where we will be doing all of our editing, it is marked in pink.
Deliver is where we are controlling the rendering options, it is marked in orange.

How to cut a video

Okay, so now once we installed the software and understand what does what we can continue and cut our video.
If you haven't followed steps 3, 4 and 5, now is the time.
Now what you will see will be something similar to this :

https://ibb.co/tqBkY9N
Drag the slider that is marked with blue to your approximate desired location of cutting, adjust with the red one for maximum accuracy.
Click on the green button and now your video is split in two what you'll see now is the following :

If you want to delete the part on the left, you click on it, press delete and that's it, video is cut.
The timeline will be adjusted automatically.

How to merge videos

You are good if you have added more than one video at the beginning. If not, go to the first picture and follow step 4.
Select the video from the green box and drag it to the end of the first clip, marked in red on the picture :

That's it. done.

How to apply transition effects

Click in between two clips and then press on transitions, marked in red.

Select which transition you like the most and double-click to apply it.

Now you're done cutting, merging and applying transition effects.
Next step is to export.

Rendering and exporting

Click on "Deliver", a little rocket icon marked in orange on picture 1.
On the left side, there will be your settings.
Make sure that when you are exporting, you are rendering a single clip and not individual clips, it will be amongst the first options.
Format - I use MP4
Codec - H.264
Resolution - Really up to you, here you can also choose to upscale your video from 1080p to 4k.
Frame rate - It should already be adjusted to the frames of the videos you added in the beginning, considering you have been following the steps.
Quality - Leave at Automatic (Best)
Encoding profile - Set on High
Key Frames - Leave on Automatic with Frame recording enabled.

Advanced settings -

Pixel aspect ratio -
Square
Data Levels - Full, Check Retain sub-black and super-white data
Color Space Tag - leave as is
Gamma Tag - leave as is
Data Burn-in - leave as is
Tick "Force sizing to highest quality" and "Force debayer to highest quality"

Click on Add to Render Queue, select destination and press save.
Now on the right side of the screen you will see the render queue.
On the bottom right click "Render All" and that's it. Now all that's left is to wait till the rendering is done.

Hope you all enjoy this guide.
