If you don't understand what he want's to say, you should not accuse him. Nargil is a great guy and he is the best expired domain seller, I don't think he needs to promote his banner here, everyone slightly interested in domains knows him and has worked with him.

Interesting. I heard that google hates this kind of thing and actively bans websites for doing it. I would be careful. It's possibly that because Tumblr holds a little more weight you may get away with it but who knows.

@AntiHacker Expireddomains.net and other similar sites all rely on data available via different APIs, meaning this data is widespread. Really good domains you are finding on these sites are very often already registered or on auction. Finding great non-spammed domains at registration price, especially CNOBI, isn't easy there without experience and the right filters or your own system. Most people certainly DO NOT buy them at $10 or spend hours to find a single one. The site SmoothBlackHat posted uses own crawlers, all domains are available (as long as it doesn't become too popular) since the big backlink checkers didn't find this one awesome link. While PBN sites primarily relying on just one link aren't my favourite choice, at registration price with 2 minutes of additional research required, the bang for the buck (time is money, too) is awesome. Does anyone else serve you worthwhile expireds on a silver plater? No.

And the second point you made was that the free or $1 hostings are unreliable. They are unreliable as hell. When I needed a lot of $1 hostings with a different IPs, the companies happened to come and go. I spent a crapload of time just checking if any of my websites is down. But the approach in this tut is not about a "free hosting" as in a standard hosting that is given you for free. Such hostings are even more unreliable. My described method uses the web2.0 hosting, which means that your website will be hosted on the same servers as blogspot or tumblr blogs. Did you ever see a downtime on a tumblr blog? I did not.
You blended two things together. With one I would agree, with one I would not. Will the web2.0 hosting have a footprint? It will, you are right. My idea about this tutorial was that a person new to PBNs could start a let's say 10-domain network having 3 domains on blogspot, 3 on tumblr, etc. By the time such marketer will run out of options for web2.0 hostings, he/she will have a real PBN which used properly should supply him the means (money) to step up his game and play as the big guys do. Probably noone will have a 200-domain PBN on web2.0 hostings. I just think it is a good start for new marketers, and a good way of diversification(or cost cutting) for big players.

I want to point out for some noobies that may be looking for hosting options to check out Bulk Buy Hosting. I am just starting out myself and they are cheap and super easy to use.

It really depends on the quality of the domains. Web2.0 hosting is just what it is - a hosting.

You know TF isn't the only thing to look at as it can be easily manipulated. But pretty good method right here, not bad.
