To be creative, to think outside of the box; when you need to; is one of the most important skills the entrepreneur needs.
Why?
Simply because you want your website or business to stand out of the crowd, and to do that you need to be different, to be unique. Also, unique and creative methods often have much less competition than the regular methods everyone is using (for instance, Pinterest vs SEO for driving traffic).
How?
I believe that it's possible to make creative stuff when you need to. Not to turn out into a creative thinker, but to produce this creative thing when you need to.
Here are some tips that I use, and it's been a great help for me:
Be Silly
It's a known fact that we all were creative when we were just kids. With age, we get the "facts" planted in our heads.
By "Be Silly" I mean, think just like a child. Try to ignore the facts and limits. And just be silly.
Go back to basics
Re-think about the things that you always take for granted. The very basic changes is what often produces creativity.
Ask questions
Write down 10 questions, and then try to answer each. Try to make the questions as silly and basic as possible. For example, if you want to find creative ways for driving traffic to your website, you can ask yourself:
"How do people move from one website to another?" or "What are all the ways to contact the users of Facebook to tell them about my website?"
Then try to answer those, and you should get some creative ideas.
Find Solitude
You will never be creative in a noisy, distracting environment. Go out for a walk, or find a place where you can be alone. Try just to relax, don't force yourself to think.
Change Environment
Change the colors, the place, even your hat. By changing my environment, I found out that I also change my "regular" thinking routine.
For example, if you usually write your blog post in the office, try doing that in the park. If you usually use the WordPress admin panel to write the draft post, try Notepad.
