Hey guys. Here's a guide I made for doing keyword research built purely around people who are already willing to hand over their hard earned cash. I am new at this, so some of what I have said may differ in opinions to other people, hell, may even be wrong. But I have taken so much from BHW and never given anything back, so I thought this might help!
Requirements: Traffic Travis (Free Program)
If you don't like Dubstep... You might want to mute the music. It's brutal.
Step 1: Open up Google Keyword Tool. Set include terms such as "buy", "shop", "cheap", "online", "on line". Set exclude terms such as "how to", "how", "where", "when", "what", "does", "can", "2011", "2012", "2013" and "best buy". (It's stupid how many people search for Best Buy.)
Change to your Location of Choice and set minimum local searches to 300, and maximum local searches to 10,000.
Use a generic Keyword such as laptop, clothes. Keep it really generic or you wont get any results. Also, make sure you have Exact Match checked. Search away.
Step 2: Now were going to use the Saved Ideas function. Click Save All.
Now, click on one of the results and click "show more like this", click save all again. Repeat this, many many times. (Think of it in categories, so subsection of laptops would be laptop parts). The more sub-sections you can tap into, the more results will save each time. Don't forget to press save all each time.
Step 3: Download all your Saved Ideas in a CSV. Copy and Paste them into Godaddys bulk domain checker. It'll tell you that there's a formatting error, but it corrects it for you. Now you can see all of the keywords with your TLD available.
Step 4: Copy all the available domains into Word. Replace all to remove the .com/.net/.org and unfortunately... Manually add the spaces back in the keywords. I know, i'm sorry. I just don't know a better way!
Step 5: Copy-paste them into Traffic Travis's competition search and leave it to run.
Step 6: You can now view the reports for each keyword. I personally arrange it by PR, as I tend to get better luck when browsing those. What we're looking for is keywords with at least 2 or 3 competitors with 0 PR, 0 Backlinks or low backlinks, and non-optimized content, such as a lack of Title Tag, H1 tag or Description. Forum posts, and other low quality competitors is great.
Step 7: Paste the successful keywords back into Google Keyword Tool, so you can see how many Local Searches a month it has and it's CPC (If your going to Adsense it, I personally Amazon them.)
Step 8: Do a Phrase search in Google by adding " to it. Such as "keyword". Thats just so you can check the overall competition, but personally, I don't care about that as any competitor worth worrying about is already on the first page. We checked this already.
Step 9: Buy Domain, Build it, Web 2.0 and Social Bookmark it (Be sure to use varied anchor texts since Penguin.)
Step 10: Make money and do another one!
Now, I am new. So if I have anything wrong here, please feel free to tell me. I hope this helps!
