So I'm about to spend a chunk on some news articles which are going to be posted on some high traffic local news websites. As it is going to cost me a fair bit I want to make sure I am making the most of it.

As an example, say I am a plumber in the UK and I have found 4 local news sites I operate in , London, Bristol, Portsmouth and Southampton. Should each guest post have say my keyword 'Plumbing London" then direct it to my location pages instead of the homepage ?

Also once the story is no longer showing on their main page it will be archived, will I still recieve good juice from that ?

Many thanks

It depends on your ranking goals. Do you wish to rank for each location in the UK? If yes, then point the links to the location-specific pages. No doubt less link juice will flow to your site if it leaves the homepage, but this shouldn't be a problem if your guest posts have internal links from other pages on the website.

Yes so looking to rank each location page on first page. The KW difficulty for my niche is very low so hoping citations and these links may push it.

If they archive the post will the link juice still be there ?

This depends on how the website in question deals with its archived articles.
As long as the article isn't set to noindex or nofollow then you will still be receiving link juice from it. And while we're on that point - make sure the backlinks you're getting from these news articles are DF to ensure maximum effectiveness.

If you want to rank for this specific keyword, then you should aim for a couple of exact match anchors which should do the work for a low competition keyword,
It's not a must to have the guest post optimised for your keyword, as long as the website/article is relevant it should be good to go
