Hi, One thing I think we are overlooking in link building is the value of what happens around the backlink. a relevant guest post can give you more than a do follow link. A natural unlinked brand mention, consistent brand positioning, and association with the right topical context can all contribute to how the brand is represented across the web.
This becomes even more interesting with ai search. If an ai system is trying to understand who a brand is, what it does, and what its known for, having the brand repeatedly mentioned in relevant third party content could be more useful than simply accumulating another batch of backlinks.
Im not suggesting unlinked mentions are a standalone ranking factor or that they will automatically get a brand cited by Chatgpt. But from a linkbuilding perspective, it makes sense to build the brand footprint, not just the backlink profile.
So Im starting to look at guest posts differently, the backlink is one asset, the surrounding brand and topical signals are another.
For those doing serious link building, have you started measuring the value of guest posts beyond the actual link?
