Guest Posting Penalized - Now What?

I just found (a few weeks late) that guest posting is now officially penalized. So if we wanna go completely white hat, what's there to do, what other link building methods are there that don't get penalized?

Guest posting is not penalized. But if you are doing all the listed below ways than yes guest posting is penalized.

Write an article.
Submit to the shittiest blog.
Get a link within the content.
Get a link within the author bio (Anchor optimized).
 
If guest posting is penalized, wouldn't that mean blog posting is penalized too? My sites are ranking better than ever with blog posts.

If you say guest posts are different from blog posts, perhaps you need to start guest posting like a blog post then.
 
Guest blogging is not penalized, the links have simply been devalued, Guest blogging is now for traffic, not SEO.
 
First off, google needs to figure out how to penalize guest blogging first and i don't think they have figured that out yet...

the blog post written by matt cutts about this is just his first warning that google wants to do something to address this, but this is going to be very hard for them to do...
 
All that Matt's little outburst proves is that guest blogging is effective for gaming their serps, and that they can't do anything about it algorithmically (or they would have done so a long time ago). If you format your guest posts properly (i.e link out to other relevent authority sites and don't just have 3 anchor links to different pages on the same domain), and follow other best practice, then IMO there isn't really much they can do about it. What are they going to do, devalue every link from every blog on the web?
 
Just keep doing what you were doing. Who believes in that crap anyway? Like as if they could penalize and devalue Guest Posts forever. It's just talk talk talk.
 
Now rush down to your local Maccys as SEO is dead for the 15th year on a run.
 
Typically, when Matt Cutts talks about something that strongly (like guest blogging), it means that's what Google would like to have happen, and they are aware of it and trying to work something out. Their first step is always to announce something today as if it were reality with the hopes that many people will think it is dead and stop doing it on their own. Generally it means there is a 6 month to 2 year window before they can really enforce what they say.

It still drives traffic, and it is not a penalty, so who cares?

EDIT,

Well now I learn they are taking an approach where they look at the quality of the link to decide if it hurts or not.

So in their typical way they are saying if you do it to promote your business it will help you, if you are doing it for SEO it will hurt.

Default toward quality here and you will be fine.

Ok Brainiac, how does Google algorithm knows which link is posted there for the guest posting and which one is not? This is not some special type of link, it is a link like any other link. It's not like you have to insert HTML code somewhere when you post that link, something like < ahref/guest-post-link"my site">whatever>
 
If you want to stay white just don't even think about links, think about your content.

Yeah, that's Google's next public service announcement: Have their "head of spam guru" announce that the title and URL should have "guest post" in them so they know people are trying to pass link juice. Oh wait, there's already people leaving that footprint.
 
As long as your content make sense, i won't worry too much about it. Google just want to scare you off to reduce people spamming this technique.
 
I'm not actually certain that it's penalized... I'm quite sure the announcement was that they're looking at ways to devalue paid guest posts... that's a long, LONG way from being penalized.

you sure? why then in bhw high pr blog post service is selling good? what is the difference between guest post and high pr blog post and private blog network post?
