I've been doing manual outreach and publishing niche-specific guest posts to drive SEO growth. However, I'm now noticing a shift: AI search engines are becoming another gatekeeper of traffic.

Has anyone here tested strategies or content formats that help guest posts get visibility in AI search results as well? Do factors like contextual authority, topical depth, or brand mentions make a bigger difference compared to traditional backlinking?

Would love to hear how others are adapting their guest posting approach in this new landscape.

From what I’ve tested, topical depth and contextual authority seem to matter more than the backlink itself when it comes to AI search results. Guest posts that are highly relevant, detailed, and connected to your brand signals show up more consistently than thin posts placed only for a link.

Optimizing for AI is the same as for normal search engines as obviously, AI uses top ranking pages for references (obviously, it's not going to reference you if you're on page 10 in serps).

It seems AI search cares more about how well a post explains a topic, I think it's not different that we do for search engine.

Good point. AI search seems to value contextual relevance, topical depth, and brand mentions more than just raw backlinks. Guest posts that add real value and strengthen topical authority appear to perform better than purely link focused placements.

We’ve seen stronger AI visibility when guest posts are long-form and structured in a way AI engines can easily crawl and reference. Using clear H1/H2s, a table of contents, FAQ sections, and concise bullet points makes the content more “AI-friendly” and easier to cite.

Beyond content format, where you publish matters a lot. Guest posts placed on niche-relevant, high-authority sites (DR 50+) perform significantly better. We also include strategic brand mentions within the content, which helps reinforce entity recognition and brand visibility across AI search engines - not just through traditional backlinks.

Guest posts work better when they’re on trusted sites, clearly explain a topic, and mention your brand naturally

Topical relevance and being cited as a source matter more than link juice now.

Interesting topic. From what I’ve seen, AI seems to favor content depth and topical authority over just backlinks. Guest posts with rich context and clear expertise get more traction.

AI favors guest posts that are clean, structured, and easy to scan. Strong placement and natural brand mentions help boost visibility beyond links.
