Black-hat methods work. But not everywhere. Right now I’m watching a competitor’s site - in Bangladesh he created a casino review site and every month he gets around 10–15 thousand backlinks using black-hat methods.
This test has already been going on for 5 months and his site is only getting more traffic. I thought it would last one month, but no -Google doesn’t ban it, and the traffic is growing. Now it’s already about 24k traffic per month according to Ahrefs.
So yes, it works, but you need to know how to use it, because it’s very easy to get banned.
