GScraper and VPS

I was going to buy GScraper today, but then my proxy provider told me that GScraper shouldn't be considered an option, unless I have a (really) fast dedicated server (not a VPS).

My VPS setup is as follows
RAM: 4GB
CPU: 4 vCores
disk: 40GB SSD
conn. speed: ~1Gbps

I'm running GSA SER on it, too. Is GScraper really that much to (even too much) to handle for a VPS of that size?

go and buy a dedi. Im sure you will pay little more than for VPS + you will have better performance. Gscraper cpu usage depends on how many proxies you have so VPS can handle Gscraper but VPS providers often dont like Gscraper users.

Do these providers allow Scraping and Link Building and more importantly, how do they handle IP/Spam complaints?
I'm not quite sure about these.. they look incredibly cheap for how much performance they offer.

Many VPS providers resell online.net ovh etc. ;)
I have dedis in datashack and online.net - no problems with harvesting and no problems with SER but you have to use proxies (private or semiprivate).

Most of serious dedicated server providers dont care how you use server as long as you dont abuse bandwidth (thats why you have to target dedi with high bw limits) and you they dont get spam complaints (use proxies and you shoud be ok).
 
Ok, thanks for the advice, but for now I'm 'stuck' with my VPS so let's focus on my current hardware. Would you consider it not being enough to handle GScraper?

That vps stats are more than great. So its all good. i've had very low config vps doing well with Gscraper. Best of luck Gscraper is much faster and better for scrapping.

Believe me , Gscraper is a nightmare for proxy providers. i was getting 10k urls/minute on a 512 mb ram vps.

That's not an issue for me, I've got a great proxy provider. I was more worried about my VPS' hardware, but since that doesn't seem to be a problem I'm good to go, I guess.

GS is a proxy eater ask any user of gs and he will tell you how many proxies it needs.
you can test their trail version to check your vps.

How many proxies are we talking about the GS eats up on a typical day with several large runs?
 
Gscraper only works with their own private proxies. That's it.

you're joking or what ? i run gscraper with scraped public proxy sometimes and still fine. got million list.

op you do not need dedicated to run gscraper. since it's only scraping and your spec looks good
 
UPDATE

I thought this thread might be interesting for other people with the same/similar question, so here's my final update. I decided to take a leap of faith and buy GScraper and everything works just fine. I'm actually running 2 instances of GS (each is scraping a different type of links I need for my link structure), each at ~300 threads. If it weren't for GSA SER which is running at ~400 threads, I'd be able to crank those GS threads up to 500-700 each and go to town on these proxies.Still, even on 250-300 threads, GScraper's speed is way beyond what Scrapebox can do. Same goes for the deduping tool and pretty much everything else that makes Scrapebox a good tool.
 
yeaah, I realy need Info for this Software.. i've try to use free version, but not working fine...
