I see a lot of people on here mentioning that NameCheap has free privacy protection for domains, but it only lasts for one year - after that you have to renew. The cost for privacy is actually more than renewing the domain :(

Since I have to renew 40 sites, should I bother with privacy or are there any workarounds / discount codes / anything that can help me get this cheaper?

Ok, I have just figured out that I was looking at the wrong shopping cart - privacy is actually really cheap at NameCheap after all.

If you have more than 50 domains you can use following coupon and get the privacy extension for only 0.99$ and domains cheaper as well: GOLDDEAL

That is because they apply it only AFTER registering and thus a lot of websites are able to scrape your info before they block it.

Actually you might be misunderstanding their whoisguard pricing. It's only $7.88/yr for the 5-pack. That means you get to protect five of your NC domains with it. That's still a great deal compared to most registrars.
