They are very important and you should use them as often as you post pics or videos.
 
Pro-tip: Use different hashtags or hashtag combinations for each of your posts. A lot of users have reported that their hashtags aren't working, and one of the reasons for this is that they are using the same ones for each post.

Try them both. I've had posts hit the explore page with 0 hashtags, it just depends on the content.
 
Hastags are important, now they even show the impressions of the hastags used.

Hi! Yes, you can not use hashtags, no one forces you. But if you want much more activity, then I advise you to study the topic of hashtags and not neglect them.
