growth without hashtags

Hashtags are important. They are powerful if you learn to use them. I studied them and made some posts go viral. I had 5k following and my biggest post was 12k likes 150k reach. Without hashtags it would be only 200-300 likes.
Memes can be taken as unique niche as people are sharing your posts a lot, but hashtags can only help you.

I've used hashtags before and gotten posts to around 3k likes with 3k followers but only got like 3-10 follows so I'm not sure

I"ve grown several accounts above 100K+ and got posts to 100K+ likes so this is what I could see:
It all depends on your niche because there are different factors that make a post go viral:
- Its engagement
- People sharing your post (shown as others in analytics)
- The momentum of your account.
I've had big accounts having many posts go viral without hashtags. But I've had also posts being on top of very competitive hashtags (2M posts) so this was definitely a boost.
So if you are in a viral niche like memes, you can do well without it but in other niches, it"s more important.
However, I wouldn't totally sleep on them as you can dominate some hashtags if you get 3k+ likes and it won't hurt to do so. So I would still work on them.

Hashtags are definitely important but when I built my Meme page I would strictly use the comment section for growth by being the funny guy everyone always seen at the top of the comment section.
