I wanted to start up a discussion on which you prefer (or which you use for what reasons) with regards to groups or fan pages, particularly with Facebook's recent crackdown on fan pages. This is how I see it:

Groups

  • Are able to send private messages to all members (but could be considered SPAM).
  • Status updates do not show up on people's news feeds.
Fan Pages

  • Cannot send private messages to members.
  • Status updates can be shown on member's news feeds if enough people comment/like it.
  • People are more likely to join a fan page than a group and higher potential to go viral?

I currently have approximately 1000 friends spanned over 10 accounts, all targeted towards a particular niche. If you were all in my position, would you invite them to a group and SPAM them with a message, or create a fan page (or several?).

Fan pages are more likely to be deleted unless you are an actual product :/

Maybe not an issue for others, but on fan page you cannt invite fans to an events...
For me its a problem.

I will start using groups with highly targeted invites and without any spam in it, and when it reaches 3-4k members, send them targeted cpa offer.
Also events have huge potential.

I'm currently doing the same thing - how many accounts are you using? And how fast are your groups growing?

I have around 35 pva's with about 500-600 friends on each, adding around 30 friends daily, but I'm planning on buying more pva's.
